Project of the week are 4 different SAE Port Flanges typically made of aluminum and steel, these however are low pressure and made from Acetal. These parts are roughly 4 x 3 x 1 and are used in the fluid power industry, we do not know the application it was made for. We made 50pcs of each flange style for about 3 months, not a bad project.
End Mills, Corner Round Mills and Chamfer Mills were solid carbide from Garr Tool with standard High-Speed Drills, Counter bores, NPT Tap and a Thread Mill. We used Mic6 aluminum plate for fixturing in order to hold down and machine 12pcs from both sides per cycle. Part tolerance except for the O-ring grooves were +/- 0.020 and the machine finish with chamfer edges was fine. The O-ring groove which has a finish of 63 Ra or better for a liquid seal with a +/- 0.003 tolerance. These are not complicated parts but was a great project to start the week of 10/13/14. We would like to thank our customer for allowing us to share this Fluid Power project with people who value the manufacturing talent that is out there...
